Flash’s biggest enemy is defeated. His daughter is gone. Cisco’s powers are gone. Reverse Flash has escaped prison. The magazine date changes from 2023 to 2019. Season 5 kept everyone on the edge of their seats.
On October 8, CW premiered season 6 of The Flash. This team of heroes can never catch a break. Over the past couple of months, Barry Allen took down the many forms of Godspeed. Godspeed is a “fake speedster” from the future; he uses velocity 9 which is a drug that makes him fast like Barry. They have caught 4 of them, but they don’t speak. That is not the first mystery in this episode.
Barry and Iris are still trying to overcome the loss of their daughter, Nora. They try to put on a brave face, but Iris goes through the junkyard to find her jacket; the jacket that made Nora XS. What she wore when she would save the world, right beside her father. As viewers, we can all see that it’s a lie. Moments after finding the jacket, a black hole appears out of nowhere; trying to ruin everything in its path. My jaw dropped just thinking, how is this team is going to solve this problem, but they never fail to exceed my expectations.
The black hole kept getting worse and worse. It came to Jitters and almost took Caitlyn. So Iris dug deep into the problem to find out that the black hole was made by a scientist named Chester: which is crazy. He created a machine out of stolen artifacts from the junkyard. When he turned it on, the black hole was accidentally born. We come to find out that touching the black hole has affected his ability to speak and move. He is the one that controls the black hole by tapping; like the black hole is part of him. That is why the black holes are happening at these specific spots like the junkyard and Jitters. These spots have value to him: the junkyard because that is where he got the materials to make the machine and Jitters because that is where he was going to ask his crush to get coffee. The solution to this problem is that Barry has to run into the black hole, grab Chester’s consciousness, and reunite it with his body.
Later in the episode, the black hole opened up over Central City. Team Flash knew what they had to do. Barry had to use Nora’s device from the future to grab Chester’s consciousness and have to rely on the speed force protecting him. That made my heart drop to the ground because Barry Allen has not had the best luck with the Speed Force. My leg started to bounce and sweat ran down my face as I watched Barry risk his life for the city. The intensity consumed me watching this episode. When I saw that Barry made it back to Star Labs, I knew I should never have doubted the team. Chester was back to his crazy self, while Barry and Iris could finally focus on overcoming the loss of their daughter.
This episode is just the start of the ups and downs that Team Flash will face. There will be even more mystery, life lessons to follow, and lots of laughs. Did anyone notice a possible metal man at the end? We will find out more in the upcoming episodes on Tuesday nights on CW.
