Westfield State University held its first bingo night of the Fall semester on the Campus Green. The game ran from 8-9:30 last night.

The Campus Activities Board hosted the event. They advertised the game via emails and social media posts. The promotion was successful, for somewhere around one hundred students attended the event.

Music was played throughout the night and energy was high. There was a sense of campus community that was felt by the students as they booed, cheered, and sang the songs played over the speaker together.

Admission was free and anyone could join. Prizes were given for each winner of the ten rounds. The winner of the 10th round, Rachel Bedini received Apple Air Pods.

When asked how it felt when she won, she noted that she was very surprised, “I was pumped but there was no way I won!”.

She also recommends more students come to the events put on by the Campus Activities Board because “It is a good way to meet people”.

The president of the Campus Activities Board, Cameron Kelleher, considered the night a success. The only thing he said he would change is that he would “prepare for more people next time”.

There was such a large turnout that some students had to sit on the grass as all the tables were full.

Throughout the night the hosts of the event kept the audience engaged by getting them to stand and having different twists to the bingo game.

During one round the hosts had everyone stand at the start of the game for a version called “losers BINGO”. If they called a number that was on your card, you had to sit down and you were out. The last person standing won. This game got a large response from the crowd of students.

At one point the hosts tried to initiate a game called musical chairs. During this game, the students would have to switch cards with one another. However, this was quickly shot down as to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.

The final round was called blackout. In this version, players have to get their entire card covered in order to win. This round took the longest.

This weekend the Campus Activities Board is also hosting a drive-in movie, a pumpkin carving contest, and a fall festival event. The fall festival event will have games, food, and Halloween themed haunts for students to enjoy.
