On Friday, September 27, comedian Brandon Vestal traveled to Westfield State University to perform stand-up comedy for students.
Originally from Altus, Oklahoma, Vestal currently lives in California, yet travels across the country performing for a variety of different venues. Vestal has been traveling for shows for the last ten years and loves the flexibility of his job.
His material ranged from jokes about the high-risk of Triple E in Westfield, to tearing apart the failing Oklahoma sports teams compared to those of Boston.
When asked what fueled his passion for comedy, Vestal responded, “I’ve wanted to do it since I was seven years old. I just watched all the shows growing up – stand up comedy shows. I knew it was what I wanted to do, for some reason.”
Growing up, Vestal went through phases of wanting to be either a jet fighter pilot, the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, or a comedian and claims that, “One out of three isn’t bad.”
First-year student, Elizabeth Naff, attended the event. When asked if she enjoyed the show, Naff responded, “I thought that it was very entertaining, and I thought that he had the perfect personality for performing.”
She proceeded, “It’s a good idea to go to events like these when the school puts them on because it gets you involved and creates an avenue to make friends outside of the classroom. It also is just a lot of fun and gives you a break from the stress of school.”
The Campus Activities Board at WSU works to provide a plethora of events on campus for all students to enjoy. Be sure to refer to the WSU website and utilize “The First Six Weeks” link to see what is coming up on campus.
