Taylor Swift comes to ‘daylight’ with her announcement of her 2020 tour, Lover. This is after a record-breaking sale of 450,000 copies sold and a number 1 spot on Billboard 200, which is comparable to her previous record, Reputation. And much like her past, she’s going on tour again. But this time it’s different, with the announcement of the Lover Fest.
Her music excursion, Lover Fest, is not your average ‘tour’. In fact, it’s a festival with many of its stops in different countries. Instead of her usual 50+ dates all around the US and world, Swift is just playing at a few stops with the majority being in Europe and South America, aka the ‘west’ portion. And what’s unique about the fest is the only two US stops for the entirety of the festival, which is the ‘east’ portion. Lover Fest will be performed at the infamous Gillette Stadium, located in Foxboro, Massachusetts for two nights only. Choosing this place for the only US stops was no accident- as Swift has referred to Gillette stadium as her ‘home away from home’ and has been a popular stop for her tours in the past.
There is a reason why the pop icon decided upon a more intimate gathering instead of a big concert. Taylor stated in a tweet that she wants to play in a way that feels ‘authentic’, and with her new discography being a form of her true, free self it makes sense. She also mentioned that it’s a ‘summer’ feel; hence the open field-like nature that festivals usually possess, and summer-only tour dates. Swift has been performing already in places like Paris, but the Lover festival will kick off on June 20 at Werchter Boutique in Werchter, Belgium.
Taylor has also been pursuing other options as well this year, with the announcement of her return to The Voice, a musical competition show, as a ‘Mega Mentor’. She has also been pretty vocal on social media, liking fans’ tweets and retweeting articles and in her album copies which include letters and journal entries. She called out Scooter Braun, a music executive, for purchasing the rights to her complete discography, with a bash on Twitter and Instagram. This led to an announcement that said she would be rerecording her whole catalog of music under her own name. Compared to her past, we are now able to see the real Taylor Swift with her personal life being shared with the world.
