Last Saturday, the Westfield Women’s Rugby Club played a tough 80 minutes against Mount Holyoke College. The final score was 41-20, with Mount Holyoke coming out on top.
However, the game was an overall positive one, according to captain Amanda Latini, who stated that “the team was aggressive to each ruck and tackle and supported each other along the way.” When asked how the team has improved over the past few weeks, she noted that “the main improvement was how the team was able to know the game, positions, and how to play because that really tied our strengths and skills together”.
Of the 20 total points scored, five were scored by Latini, five by sophomore Laura Masucci, and 10 by freshman Maraide McClure. McClure was also named Woman of the Match by the captains and coach.
With the season now halfway over, the team is constantly working to better themselves both as a team and individually. The team takes time before games for each athlete to come up with an individual goal, and after the game each person discusses with the team about how they achieved their goal.
As for the next game, Latini hopes to “put up another good fight” and “play just as strong as [the team] did against Mount Holyoke and score even more.”
Westfield will face Tufts University at Alumni Field this Saturday, October 26th, at 4:00 pm.
