Tommy Heinsohn circa 1974 coaching the Celtics

A sad day in the world of Celtics basketball. The team announced Hall of Famer Tommy Heinsohn passed away at the age of 86 in a statement on Tuesday, 11/10. A player, a coach, a broadcaster, he was and forever will be a Boston Celtic.

Heinsohn played from 1956-1965, and then coached the Celtics from 1969-1978 before becoming the color commentator for over thirty years.

He was a champion in every way. Winning eight championships as a player, and two more as a coach. His number 15 will continue to hang in the rafters at the TD Garden.

Heinsohn was an iconic voice when watching the Celtics play. His enthusiasm and bias to the Celtics was at times more entertaining than the game.

Rest In Peace Tommy Heinsohn.
