Nearly seven years after the release of the first Xbox One, the newest gaming console from Microsoft is coming. It will be released during the company’s fourth quarter, just in time for Holiday 2020.
Back in June of last year, Microsoft announced at the annual E3 video game expo that they were working on what they referred to as Project Scarlett. As many speculated, this was later revealed to be Microsoft’s next generation gaming console, officially titled the Xbox Series X.
Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, promised that the newest edition to Microsoft’s line of consoles will set the standard for the future of gaming. In a recent letter penned to the community, Spencer revealed a slew of new information about the Series X. He emphasized that the company’s focus in developing this console was on the players and creating the fastest, most powerful, and most immersive gaming environment yet.
One thing that immediately stands out about the Xbox Series X is the design. Unlike past thin and rectangular Xbox consoles, the Series X is slightly bulkier, resembles a longer more cube-like shape, and is portrayed in a vertical position in Microsoft’s advertisements. In color and style, though, it resembles the same sleek and minimalistic look that was incorporated into the Xbox One S and Xbox One X.
As Microsoft continues to announce updates about the new console, the anticipation from gamers is high about the collection of titles that will be launched along with it. For the most part, the company has been tight lipped about games that will be launched with the Series X, but there are expectations that Microsoft will deliver at E3 2020 in June. The most significant title revealed to this point is Halo: Infinite, the newest installment from Xbox’s most popular exclusive game. For a look at more titles heading to the Xbox Series X, IGN has put together a list of both confirmed and rumored games.
While the news about the latest Xbox console continues to roll out, the gaming community is still awaiting further developments from Sony about the PS5. The newest PlayStation console is set to rival the Series X with a Holiday 2020 launch of its own, but Sony has yet to officially unveil their next generation device. One thing is for sure, the newest edition of the console wars will be heating up in the second half of the year.
