Music Review: Tracy Chapman

Tracy Chapman performing live

Recently, I finally listened to Tracy Chapman’s self-titled debut album. I really enjoyed listening to it and feel that it is a debut album that proves that an artist is off to the right start. With tracks like “Fast Car” and others, Chapman established herself as a soulful artist capable of telling interesting stories through her music. From the get go, she has this great voice and a strong and rough air to her music, which only makes her music all the more intriguing to me.

It is ironic that I first listened to her recently, as she finally was recognized for “Fast Car” and for her importance to country music, at the Country Music Awards just a few weeks ago. It is great to see her finally getting the recognition she deserves for her music, and to be seen as the important artist that she is.

I definitely recommend this album, as well as her other albums, for anyone who might find her music interesting, as well as fans of rhythm and blues or country music.
